Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent data from missing, and to enhance the reliability of a road surface sensor, by providing such an arrangement that the condition of the road surface is detected in accordance with the output of a Doppler type ultrasonic sensor and the output of a vehicle speed sensor. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic wave (f0) radiated from a transmitter ultrasonic vibrator 6 in a Doppler type ultrasonic sensor 12 is reflected upon the road surface 1 and the thus obtained reflected wave (f') is received by a receiver ultrasonic vibrator 7, and is delivered to a computing circuit 13 through a band amplifier 8, a mixer 9, a wave detection circuit 10 and an amplifier 11. Mean while, a vehicle speed sensor delivers a detected vehicle speed to the computing circuit 13 which computes C/2f0XDELTAf/V to deliver the inclination of the road surface. From this value, the CPU 15 judges the condition of the road surface and control the suspension. With this arrangement it is possible to prevent data from missing and to enhance the reliability of the road surface sensor.
