Abstract

PURPOSE: To shorten connecting wires and reduce a parasitic capacitance and a parasitic inductance by providing metal conductor lines whose impedance is matched between lead terminals and a semiconductor laser in a package.
CONSTITUTION: DIL terminals 5 in an air-tight package 4 are connected to metal conductor lines 7 on a ceramic substrate 6. The lines 7 are extended close to a semiconductor laser 1 and connecting wires 8 are shortened to reduce an indactance. Moreover, the external impedance connected to the terminals 5 and the impedance of the lines 7 are matched to reduce the influence of a parasitic inductance and a parasitic capacitance. With this constitution, the parasitic inductance and the parasitic capacitance of the routes from the input and output terminals of the package to the semiconductor laser can be reduced and a laser module which facilitates high speed modulation can be obtained.
