Abstract

PURPOSE: To decide the exposure in a short time with use of an image pickup element itself by employing a member whose transmissivity of light quantity can be variable by an electrical signal.
CONSTITUTION: An exposure control member 3 for controlling incident light quantities with respect to plural parts of an image pickup means so as to vary is a shutter divided into plural parts whose transmissivities of light quantities can be electrically controlled by an electrical signal just like a physical shutter, for instance. When a power source switch SW1 is turned on nonsynchronous with a vertical syhchronizing signal VD and a release switch SW2 not shown in the figure is also turned on in a field F2, a shutter 3 is driven through a shutter driver 3a with the aid of a signal from an arithmetic control circuit 11 for times t3∼t4, synchronizing with the next field F3, and the exposure for measuring the brightness of a subject is executed. At the point when integrating work is completed, a luminance signal intgration result is inputted to the arith metic control circuit 112 at a time t7, and the subject brightness is calculated.
