Abstract

PURPOSE:To achieve great capacity and high resolution of a dot-matrix fluorescent display tube by using separate dot blocks each having several dot anodes, installing a drain electrode surrounding each dot block and installing a filament facing each dot block. CONSTITUTION:Anodes 2 coated with a phosphor 1 are separately formed on each of several dot blocks 6. A drain electrode 7 is installed around each dot block 6 through an insulator 8, and a filament 4 is installed facing each dot block 6. A dot-matrix fluorescent character display tube is assembled by placing the above parts in a vacuum case. Emission is controlled by turning on and off dot voltage for each anode 2 while the filaments 4 are constantly maintained in a thermion-emitting state. Because of the above structure, it is possible to control displaying of several dots by one filament. Consequently, great capacity and high resolution of the display tube can be achieved by reducing the size of the dots.
