Examples of this water-absorbing resin include carboxymethylcellulose crosslinked products, polyoxyethylene partially crosslinked products, starch-acrylonitrile graft copolymer hydrolysates, polyacrylate partially crosslinked products, vinyl alcohol-acrylate copolymers, etc. Are known. The performance of these water-absorbing resins is largely influenced by their manufacturing method, but none of them can simultaneously satisfy all required performances such as water-absorbing capacity, water-absorbing speed, gel strength, and safety. For example, the water absorption capacity may be low, or even if the water absorption capacity is high, the gel strength after water absorption may be weak, the gel may feel sticky after water absorption and lack the so-called smooth feeling, or the resin after water absorption may be It has drawbacks such as being left in a state of confusion.

A known method for improving the gel strength of the water-absorbing resin after water absorption is to increase the crosslinking density of the water-absorbing resin. There is a fatal flaw in the decline. Furthermore, the disadvantage that the resin becomes lumpy after water absorption can be solved by surface-modifying the water-absorbing resin using a crosslinking agent such as ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether. However, the crosslinking agent itself has risks such as skin irritation, and when it remains in the resin, new safety and health problems arise.

However, even the polymers obtained by these methods still do not fully satisfy the various performances required of water-absorbing resins, and in particular, there is room for improvement in the gel strength of the polymers. Further, according to the above method, since the protective colloid used has strong hydrophilicity, the obtained polymer easily causes blocking when left at room temperature.

Because of this disadvantage, each of the above methods requires a complicated additional operation of removing the protective colloid from the resulting bead-like polymer by washing it with a solvent under heating after reverse-phase turbidity polymerization. There are also disadvantages in terms of process.

The above sorbitan fatty acid ester preferably has an HLB in the range of 2 to 12. If the HLB is less than 2, the dispersibility tends to decrease, and the HLB is 1.
If it is larger than 2, the obtained polymer may not be bead-like and may become a microemulsion. In the case of sucrose fatty acid ester, its HLB is not particularly limited;
Any commercially available product in the range L81-15 can be advantageously utilized.

The amount of each dispersant used is determined as appropriate, but in general, the amount of dispersant used is approximately 0.00 m (Ilkw) containing the alkali metal salt of acrylic or methacrylic acid to be polymerized.
It is preferably selected from the range of 1 to 10!1 ifit%. If this is less than o, ooi weight%, the particle size distribution of the resulting bead-like polymer will be uneven, and even if it is used in excess of 10% by weight, the effect will not be particularly noticeable.
In fact, it is economically disadvantageous.

~97% (mol%, same hereinafter), preferably 70-95
If the amount of component A is less than 50%, the resulting water-absorbing resin will have blocking properties, and during polymerization, the particulate polymer (
This is not preferable because a large amount of particles (with particle diameters o and oim less than 1) are produced, resulting in poor handling and workability. Moreover, if this exceeds 97%, other components, especially component B, will decrease accordingly, resulting in a decrease in both the protective colloid performance and the gel strength of the resulting water-absorbing resin, which is not preferable. The amount of the component used is closely related to the performance of the protective colloid, and also affects the particle size and gel strength of the resulting polymer.
-50%, preferably 5-30%. If this is less than 3%, the protective colloid performance tends to be poor, making it difficult to obtain a stable bead-like polymer. Moreover, if it exceeds 50%, the particle size of the obtained polymer becomes small and its blocking property is poor.
It also has the disadvantage of decreasing the smooth feeling when water is absorbed. Component C is not an essential component and can be used as needed, but the amount used should be such that it does not reduce the properties caused by the use of the above-mentioned components, and is usually 30% or less.

It is preferable to use a monopolymerization method, and in this method, for example, polyvinyl alcohol or gelatin is present in deionized water, the temperature is raised to a predetermined temperature under a silicon gas flow, and then predetermined amounts of components A to C and an initiator are added. The reaction product is added dropwise and kept warm until the polymerization is completed, and then the reaction product is filtered and dried under reduced pressure. The above monomer is subjected to the reversed-phase suspension polymerization reaction of the present invention in the form of an aqueous solution. The total monomer concentration in the aqueous solution affects the polymerization stability during suspension polymerization and the molecular weight (crosslinking degree) of the produced polymer, and is usually 35 to 80%, preferably 40 to 70%.
It is best to adjust it to %. If this concentration is less than 35%, suspension polymerization stability may decrease and aggregates may be produced as a by-product, and adjusting the S degree to more than 80% is important in terms of monomer saturation concentration. It is more difficult.

In addition, when polymerizing the above molecule using a water-soluble persulfate, the self-crosslinking reaction proceeds without using any crosslinking agent, but when using a water-soluble azo initiator, the self-crosslinking reaction progresses. It may be difficult to progress or may not progress. In this case, it is necessary to further add a crosslinking agent component to the aqueous monomer solution containing the alkali metal salt of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid. This crosslinking agent component is already known in this field, and typically, bisacrylamides such as methylenebisacrylamide and methylenebismethacrylamide, divinyl compounds shown below, etc. can be used. .

As a specific example, for example, the hydrophobic solvent, the dispersant, and the protective colloid are added to a suitable reaction vessel, and the acrylic acid prepared by adding a water-soluble polymerization initiator in advance under a nitrogen stream is dissolved and dispersed. Alternatively, add a predetermined amount of an aqueous monomer solution containing an alkali metal salt of methacrylic acid, raise the temperature in the system to 40 to 80°C, keep the temperature for a predetermined time, and distill off the water under the same conditions. Then, the contents can be filtered and dried under reduced pressure. Thus, typically the average particle size is approximately 0.

According to the above-mentioned method of the present invention, the polymerization reaction can be carried out stably based on the use of a specific dispersant and protective colloid. Polymer can be obtained. In addition, the polymer obtained in this way has excellent properties such as water absorption capacity, water absorption rate, gel strength, etc.
It has characteristics such as no sticky feeling. Although the reason why a polymer having these excellent characteristics can be obtained by the present invention is still not clear, the specific protective colloid used in the present invention is a cationic copolymer, so that the resulting polymer An ionic bond is formed with the alkali metal salt of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid that forms the central part of the combined particles, forming a kind of coacervation structure, producing a stable bead-like polymer, and This is thought to be because the cationic copolymer serving as a protective colloid is localized on the surface of the combined particles by crosslinking based on the ionic bond, thereby modifying the surface of the particles.

In any case, the bead-shaped polymer obtained by the present invention has excellent water absorption ability, water absorption rate, gel strength, etc., and furthermore, the method of the present invention does not use a crosslinking agent such as ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether as in the conventional method. It is possible to obtain a polymer that does not cause health and safety problems such as skin irritation. Therefore, the obtained polymer is very useful as a water-absorbing resin, especially as a material for sanitary products.

A gel (hereinafter referred to as 30x gel) was created by mixing 60 g of physiological saline and 2.0 Q of water-absorbing resin sample, and the hardness (surface hardness) of the gel was measured using a Neocard meter manufactured by Iio Electric Co., Ltd. do. Here, the surface hardness is expressed as a resistance force that prevents the pressure-sensitive shaft from pushing away the gel and entering the sample surface.
