DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a method for producing a polyester film having excellent thickness accuracy. More specifically, the thickness accuracy is improved by modifying the conductivity of the raw material polyester. Biaxially oriented polyester films, especially polyethylene terephthalate, have excellent mechanical properties, electrical properties, chemical resistance, dimensional stability, etc., and are therefore used for magnetic tapes, capacitors, packaging, plate making, electronics, etc. It is used as a base material in many fields, including for photographic film. Incidentally, in recent years, the requirements for film quality have become increasingly strict, and in particular, reducing long-term waviness of the film, that is, improving thickness accuracy, has become an indispensable condition. For this purpose, when a sheet material melted and extruded from an extrusion die is rapidly cooled in a rotating cooling drum as described in Japanese Patent Publication No. 37-6142, an electrostatic charge is applied to the surface of the sheet material. A so-called electrostatic application cooling method is known in which an object is brought into close contact with a cooling surface. However, in this electrostatic application cooling method, when the speed of the rotating cooling drum is increased for the purpose of increasing productivity, the adhesion between the sheet material and the cooling drum decreases, resulting in the formation of so-called bound bubbles. The quality characteristics required for the product are unacceptable. In general, the higher the specific resistance of the raw material polyester when melted, the more likely these bound bubbles are to occur, for example when the value measured by the method described below is 5 x 10 8 Ω-cm or more, and the more efficiently a high-quality film can be produced. It becomes difficult to obtain a good result. As one method for improving this drawback, a method is known, for example, as described in JP-A-51-70269, in which a metal compound is added or contained during polyester production to reduce the specific resistance during melting. However, according to the knowledge of the present inventors,
If such a method is used to reduce the specific resistance during melting, in order to ensure the effect, it is necessary to add a fairly large amount of metal compound during polyester production, but in this case, the polyester is exposed to high temperatures for a long period of time. Therefore, the formation of diethylene glycol bonds, which are by-products, is often promoted and the thermal stability becomes poor. In addition, such metal compounds often precipitate, in part or in whole, as metal salts of polyester oligomers or other forms of metal salts during a long period of time during polyester production, giving rise to fine particles insoluble in the polyester. If fine particles insoluble in the polyester are produced, the transparency, surface roughness, slipperiness, etc. of the film will change, and the desired film may not be obtained. By the way, depending on the use of polyester film, it is often necessary to avoid adding these metal compounds at the polyester manufacturing stage in order to maintain its transparency and slipperiness within a certain range. If the specific resistance of polyester when melted is high, it becomes impossible to effectively employ the electrostatic application cooling method. In view of the above-mentioned circumstances, the present inventors conducted intensive studies to modify polyester, which has a high specific resistance when melted and cannot be effectively applied to the electrostatic cooling method as it is. The present inventors have discovered that by adding a specific amount, it is possible to improve the thickness accuracy of a film to a preferable extent using an electrostatic cooling method without impairing heat resistance, transparency, and color tone. That is, the present invention provides a method for producing a polyester film using an electrostatic cooling method using a polyester having a specific resistance when melted of 5 x 10 8 Ω-cm or more as a raw material, as measured by the method shown below. In the process before the process, the melting point of the polyester is
A method for producing a polyester film characterized by adding 0.01 to 1% by weight of a metal salt of an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid or dicarboxylic acid at a temperature of 70 to 290°C. (Measurement of specific resistance during melting of polyester: Brit.J.Appl.Phys.) Vol. 17, No.
The method described on pages 1149-1154 (1966).
However, in this case, the temperature at the time of melting the polymer composition is 290°C, and the value immediately after applying 3000 V DC is taken as the specific resistance at the time of melting. ) The present invention will be explained in more detail below. The polyester film used in the present invention refers to a film produced from polyester containing 80 mol% or more of ethylene terephthalate units, but the polyester used as the raw material may be produced by any method. For example, it can be obtained by subjecting a dibasic acid containing terephthalic acid or its lower alkyl ester as a main component to an esterification or transesterification reaction with a glycol containing ethylene glycol as a main component, followed by a polycondensation reaction. In this case, the specific resistance at the time of melting of the polyester obtained varies over a wide range depending on the type and amount of the catalyst, the type and amount of the phosphorus compound added as an auxiliary agent, etc., but in particular, the specific resistance at the time of melting is 5× 10 8 Ω−
The effects of the present invention can be exerted when a polyester film is produced using polyester as a raw material, which is too high to be effectively applied to the electrostatic application cooling method if it is as high as 1 cm or more. The gist of the present invention is to add a specific amount of a specific metal compound to polyester having a high specific resistance when melted before the melt extrusion process and to feel the specific resistance when melted. In this case, the metal compound added has a melting point.
It must be a metal salt of an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid or dicarboxylic acid with a temperature of 70 to 290°C. Specifically, metal salts of aliphatic monocarboxylic acids or dicarboxylic acids having about 4 to 30 carbon atoms, especially lithium salts, sodium salts, potassium salts, magnesium salts, manganese salts, zinc salts, calcium salts, aluminum salts, etc. One or more selected compounds may be mentioned. especially magnesium salts,
The effects of the present invention are effectively exhibited in the case of manganese salts, zinc salts, and calcium salts. These metal compounds generally have good compatibility with polyester, and rarely deteriorate the transparency and thermal stability of the obtained film. Note that these metal compounds used in the present invention must have a melting point of 70 to 290°C. This is because if the melting point is less than 70°C, the film will be exposed to high temperatures, albeit for a short time, during the melt extrusion process, which will easily cause decomposition or deterioration, which will have an adverse effect on the film. Furthermore, the films tend to adhere to each other, resulting in poor handling efficiency. On the other hand, if the melting point of the metal compound exceeds 290°C, it will not melt at all or will not melt sufficiently during the melt extrusion process, so that the original purpose of improving the electrical conductivity of polyester will not be fully achieved. That is, according to the knowledge of the present inventors, in order to reduce the specific resistance of polyester during melting and improve the adhesion between the molten sheet material and the cooling body, a metal compound is simply added to the polyester. However, it is preferable that the metal compound is in a molten state and can move freely in the polymer when molded into a molten sheet. Examples of metal compounds that can be used in the present invention that meet these requirements include magnesium palmitate, manganese palmitate, zinc palmitate, magnesium stearate, zinc stearate, potassium oleate, sodium oleate, and oleic acid. Examples include magnesium, zinc oleate, magnesium sebacate, manganese sebacate, etc., but are not limited to these, of course. In addition, the amount of these metal compounds added varies depending on the type of additive, but is 0.01~
1% by weight, preferably 0.05-0.5% by weight is suitable. If the amount added is less than 0.01% by weight, it will be difficult to achieve the desired reduction in the specific resistance of the polymer when melted, and if the amount added exceeds 1% by weight, thermal stability will often deteriorate and the product will decompose or deteriorate. This causes air bubbles and vertical streaks to appear in the film, and also impairs transparency and color tone. In the present invention, these metal compounds must be mixed with the polyester whose polymerization reaction has been completed before the melt extrusion process. It is usually preferable to add these metal compound powders before or during the drying process to make the powder as uniform as possible. As detailed above, the present invention improves heat resistance, transparency, and color tone by adding a specific amount of a specific metal compound to polyester, which cannot be effectively applied to the electrostatic cooling method as it is because of its high specific resistance when melted. It has been discovered that the thickness accuracy of the film can be improved to a preferable degree using the electrostatic cooling method without damage, and its industrial value is great. In the present invention, after the amorphous sheet-like material is formed using the electrostatic cooling method, a normal stretching process can be used. That is, methods such as sequential biaxial stretching or simultaneous biaxial stretching in the longitudinal and transverse directions and heat treatment at 160° C. to 240° C. (for example, the method disclosed in Japanese Patent Publication No. 30-5639) can be used. Hereinafter, the present invention will be explained in more detail based on Examples and Comparative Examples. In addition, "parts" in Examples and Comparative Examples indicate "parts by weight." The measurement method used is shown below. (1) Thickness unevenness of polyester film Measure the film thickness at 10 points every 10 cm in the width direction, at 10 points in total at 10 points every 1000 m in the longitudinal direction of the film. The film thickness is measured using a micrometer manufactured by Anritsu Denshi, and the thickness is calculated by stacking 10 films around the relevant location and converting the thickness to 1 film. Among all the measured values, the maximum value is Xmax, the minimum value is Xmin, and the arithmetic average value is Xmax-Xmin/〓, which is defined as the thickness unevenness of the film, and the smaller the value, the better it is, and particularly preferably 0.13 or less. (2) Film haze Measured using a Nippon Denshoku turbidimeter model NDH-2A according to the method of ASTM D 1003-61. (3) Film color tone The b value, which is an index of the yellowness of the film, was measured using a photoelectric color difference meter (TC-5D type) manufactured by Tokyo Denshoku. The larger the b value, the stronger the yellowish tinge. (4) Amount of diethylene glycol After the polyester film was decomposed with a methanol/sodium hydroxide solution, the amount of diethylene glycol contained was determined by gas chromatography, and expressed as mol% relative to ethylene glycol. If the number of diethylene glycol bonds increases, the melting point of the polymer will decrease and the heat resistance will deteriorate, so the smaller the amount, the better. Example 1 Bis-β was added to an esterification reactor equipped with a stirring device.
-(Hydroxyethyl) terephthalate oligomer (100 parts) was taken, 87 parts of terephthalic acid and 42 parts of ethylene glycol were added, and an esterification reaction was carried out at 260°C under atmospheric pressure. Esterification reaction rate after 4 hours: 97
% of polyester oligomer was obtained. Next, take 106 parts of this reaction mixture (which gives approximately 100 parts of polyester) and add 260 parts to 260 parts.
While maintaining the temperature at °C, 0.10 part of lithium fluoride having an average particle size of 1.3μ and 0.02 part of phosphoric acid were added. Next, 0.03 part of antimony trioxide was added and polymerized according to a conventional method. i.e. after adding antimony trioxide
In 100 minutes, the temperature inside the system reached 285℃ and the pressure reached 15mmHg, and after that, the pressure was gradually reduced until it reached 0.3mm.
It was set as Hg. After 4 hours, the reaction was stopped and the intrinsic viscosity was 0.66.
of polyester was obtained. The specific resistance of this polyester when melted is 1.4×10 9
It was Ω-cm. Next, 0.05 part of magnesium stearate was added to 100 parts of the obtained chip-like polyester and mixed uniformly in a blender, followed by drying. The specific resistance of this polyester composition when melted was measured and found to be 1.2×10 8 Ω-cm. Next, this polyester composition was extruded into a sheet from an extruder at 290°C, and an amorphous sheet was formed using an electrostatic cooling method. The conditions for applying static electricity at this time are as follows. That is, as a positive electrode, the diameter
Using a 0.1mm tungsten wire, it is stretched on the top surface of the rotating cooling drum in a direction perpendicular to the flow of the sheet.
A DC voltage of approximately 9000V was applied to this. After obtaining the amorphous sheet, it was stretched 3.0 times in the longitudinal direction and 3.5 times in the transverse direction, and the extrusion rate and speed of the rotary cooling body were adjusted so that a biaxially stretched film with a thickness of 15μ was always obtained. The relationship between the speed of the cooling body, the number of trapped bubbles, and the thickness unevenness of the obtained film was observed. The speed of the rotary cooling body was gradually increased from 20 m/min, but even at 40 m/min, no bound bubbles were generated, and the thickness unevenness of the biaxially stretched film obtained at this time was as small as 0.10, which was sufficiently satisfactory. It was hot. Further, the amount of diethylene glycol, amount of transparency, and color tone, which are indicators of the heat resistance of the obtained film, are shown in Table 1 along with other results, and were at a level that caused no practical problems. Comparative Example 1 A film was prepared in the same manner as in Example 1, except that polyester without magnesium stearate was used as the polyester raw material for film formation, except that a film with a thickness of 15
A polyester film of μ was obtained. When the rotating cooling body speed reached 32 m/min, bound bubbles were observed, but the speed further increased to 40 m/min. The thickness unevenness of the film obtained at this time was 0.35, which was extremely poor. Examples 2-5 Magnesium stearate in Example 1
A polyester film was obtained in the same manner as in Example 1, except that 0.05 part of the compound was changed to the amount shown in Table 1. The results at this time are shown in Table 1. Comparative Example 2 Magnesium stearate was added at the time of polyester production. That is, after adding phosphoric acid in Example 1, 0.05% of magnesium stearate was added.
A polycondensation reaction was carried out in the same manner as in Example 1, except that 100% of the polycondensate was added. The obtained polyester had an intrinsic viscosity of 0.61, a diethylene glycol content of 2.5 mol %, and a b value of 21, which was an extremely yellowish polyester that was not suitable for film formation. Example 6 100 parts of dimethyl terephthalate, 65 parts of ethylene glycol, and 0.12 parts of calcium acetate hydrate were placed in a reactor, heated to an elevated temperature, and methanol was distilled off to perform a transesterification reaction. After the transesterification reaction was completed, a mixed solution of 0.04 part of triethyl phosphite and 0.15 part of triethyl phosphate was added, and further 0.04 part of antimony trioxide was added, followed by polymerization according to a conventional method to obtain a polyester. A large number of uniform, fine precipitated particles were observed in the polyester, and the particle size was approximately 1 to 2 μm. The specific resistance of the polyester when melted is 1.5×10 9 Ω
It was -cm. Next, 0.20 parts of calcium stearate was added to 100 parts of this polyester, and a polyester film was obtained using the electrostatic cooling method in the same manner as in Example 1. The results are shown in Table 1, and the resulting polyester film was excellent in all of its high-speed film forming properties, thickness unevenness, heat resistance, transparency, and color tone. Comparative Example 3 In Example 6, calcium stearate was added at the time of polyester production. That is, a polycondensation reaction was carried out in the same manner as in Example 6 except that 0.20 part of calcium stearate was added after the transesterification reaction. A large number of precipitated particles were observed in the obtained polyester, but their morphology was different from that of Example 6. That is, a considerable portion of the precipitated particles aggregated with each other to form coarse particles. Therefore, the polyester composition was different from the one originally intended and was not suitable for film formation. 【table】
