Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve abrasion resistance by using a thermoplastic synthetic resin material for the basic material of a polishing sheet and dispersing abrasive grains in the whole of the structure of the molded article and allowing said abrasive grains to appear successively as the basic material is worn away. CONSTITUTION:A basic member 2 in a soft circular sheet form is obtained through the working by use of the thermoplastic synthetic resin which possesses the superior impactproofness and abrasion resistance and has a large mechanical strength such as nylon, and the abrasive grains (e.g., cerium oxide particles ) 3 are dispersed uniformly in the structure and on the surface. Further, a chip removing groove 4 in spiral or radial form is formed onto the sheet surface as the polishing surface of the basic material 2.

FIG. 1 and FIG. 2 are diagrams showing an embodiment of the present invention. The abrasive cloth 1 of the present invention has a base material 2 made of a flexible circular sheet processed using a thermoplastic synthetic resin such as nylon that has excellent impact resistance, abrasion resistance, and high mechanical strength, Abrasive grains (for example, cerium oxide particles) 3 are uniformly scattered on the surface of the sheet, and spiral or radial grooves 4 are formed on the sheet surface which becomes the polishing surface. This groove 4 serves as a groove for removing chips, and the shape of the groove is not particularly limited. Further, the thickness of the sheet is not limited in any way, and when surface precision is required, it can be formed thin to increase flexibility. Furthermore, if a long life is desired, it is possible to use a thick wall, and if one or two surface accuracy is required, it is possible to add phenol resin or the like to the nylon to give it rigidity.

The abrasive sheet of the present invention can be formed by the following method. That is, cerium oxide particles (purity 50% to 99.99%) are mixed in a copolymer of nylon 6 and nylon 12 at a ratio of 5 to 95%, and heated to 180°C or higher to melt the nylon. It is obtained by pouring the melt into a dish-shaped mold with grooves on the mold surface and solidifying it to the desired thickness.

If the amount of abrasive grains mixed is less than 5 inches, the required grinding force cannot be obtained,
On the other hand, if it exceeds 95%, the flexibility as an abrasive sheet is poor. An abrasive cloth with a diameter of 300 mm and a diameter of 300 mm with a spiral V-groove of 2% thickness, 0.2 depth, and a particle size of 1.5 μφ obtained by the above method was polished under the following conditions. As described above, in the present invention, a thermoplastic synthetic resin material is used as the base material of the abrasive sheet, and abrasive grains are mixed throughout the structure of the molded body, so that new cutting edges appear one after another as the base material wears away. An abrasive cloth similar to a so-called "grinding wheel" is obtained, and grooves for removing chips can be freely provided on its abrasive surface.
