Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain the use of a high-speed relay line even when a large capacity packet exchange or multiplexer is absent by combining a transmission frame while plural packets are assembled at each destination exchange and sending the result.
CONSTITUTION: When input packets 300, 801 sent to packet exchanges 100, 102, the packet exchange 100 edits the input packets 300, 301. A transmission frame comprising a transmission frame header 311 including an identifier, an input packet 312, a packet separator, an input packet 314 and a transmission trailer 315 is assembled and sent to a high speed relay line 200. The exchange 101 receives the transmission frame 310 and identifies that the transmission frame 310 is a transmission frame addressed to the own exchange 101 from the identifier of the transmission frame header 310. The transmission frame 310 is decomposed to extract the packets 312, 314 in the frame and sends respectively them as output packets 320, 321.
