Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify the constitution of an undersea branching device, to reduce the cost, and to simplify the connecting work by providing an earth electric conductor covered with an insulating material, by a desired length from the undersea branching device, on the outside periphery of an optical submarine cable, and connecting the end part of the earth electric conductor to a split type earth electrode.
CONSTITUTION: An optical submarine cable 20 is led into one end face of a body 41 of an undersea branching device 40, and an optical submarine cable 3 and a branch optical submarine cable 4 are led into the other end face. An earth cable 30 is provided by a desired length from the body 41 of the undersea branching device 40 on the outside periphery of the optical submarine cable 20. An earth electric conductor 25 of this earth cable 30 is connected to a power source line of the optical submarine cable 4 of a branch side in a branching part 7. As for a terminal of the earth cable 30, a housing 26 is peeled off, and an earth electrode 31 of a split type which has divided a cylindrical electric conductor into two is made to adhere tightly and installed to the outside peripheral surface of the earth electric conductor 25.
