Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of total work until a proper translation result is produced by providing a function translating input sentences to be translated at every sentence, a function translating all sentences in a lump and a means selecting either one of both functions. CONSTITUTION:A translating device T is provided with a CPU 1 executing translation processing, an in-memory 2 storing a program and the intermediate data on edition processing, a CRT 3, a keyboard 4 inputting necessary data for translation processing, a translation module 5 storing translation information, a printer 7 and an external memory device 8. Thus the function translating every one sentence and that translating all sentences in a lump can coexist, and a user can appropriately select them. Accordingly, through the translation in a lamp, the rough translation of all sentences can be obtained to grasp the gist and then only the erroneously translated part is translated one by one to correct it to a correct translation, whereby the efficiency of the total work until producing the properly translated result can be improved.

For example, conventional translation systems specialize in either direct user input, such as typing from a keyboard, or indirect input from text files in external memory, etc., as a means of inputting sentences. There was no way to allow both to coexist and allow the user to select as appropriate.

Furthermore, each human-written text is specialized in either a sentence-by-sentence translation function or a batch translation function for all sentences, and there is no one that allows both to coexist and allows the user to select as appropriate.

(Problem to be solved by the invention) Generally speaking, in the case of machine translation, it is inevitable that multiple translations will be produced because the input text itself to be translated has ambiguity peculiar to natural language. Therefore, it is necessary to sequentially display a plurality of translation results and allow the user to select the correct candidate from among them. -As an example, consider the case where an English sentence consisting of the following three sentences is to be translated into Japanese.

(イ) I had 300 dollars y

In the above example, sentences (a) and (c) are correct, so there is nothing illegal.
Only the first candidate came up, and of course it was the correct answer. However, since there is an error in the sentence (2), two candidates are output in sequence, and the second candidate is the correct answer.

(A) I don't mind a rough translation, but I want to get the gist of it quickly. Therefore, I would like a function to translate sentences all at once. This example shows how to translate an English sentence into Japanese. First, the original text is read into buffer A in FIG. 2 as shown in FIG. 5(1). Dictionary lookup morphological analysis unit GA in Figure 4
The necessary information for each word is retrieved from the dictionary and placed in buffer B in FIG. The part-of-speech information that is part of it is shown in FIG. 5 (2). Whether t,his is a multipart-of-speech word is determined by the syntactic analysis unit GB shown in Figure 4. Enter like this. At this time, analysis as shown in Table 2 is performed according to the grammar I of Table 6 in FIG.

Table 2 This rule expresses, for example, ``A sentence consists of a subject and a predicate.'' In the language conversion unit GC of FIG. 4, analysis is performed according to the rules of tree structure conversion, similar to the syntax analysis, and the results are stored in the buffer D of FIG. 2 as shown in FIG. 5(4). In the target language generation unit CD shown in FIG. 4, appropriate particles and auxiliary verbs are added to the word, and the Japanese form is put into the buffer E shown in FIG. 2, as shown in FIG. 5 (5).

When a file name is designated by the user, the process moves to step n9 due to the branching decision at step n3, where the designated file is opened and the in-file pointer is set to the first sentence within the file. This file name remains in effect until a new, different file name is specified. Further, as will be described later, this in-file pointer is incremented one sentence at a time in step n17 when file translation or file batch translation is instructed.

A description of this process itself will be omitted, as is the case with the display of the input text in step n8. This cursor movement is also used to move the cursor back to re-translate a sentence that has already been translated when the input has progressed to a certain point, and also to obtain an accurate translation for each sentence. When selecting the next candidate, it is also used to advance the cursor to enter the next sentence after the correct translation has been output.

This is preparation for calling the next statement in the file to the next location on the CRT3. Step n15 again from here
, and the end of the file is checked again. The loop from step n15 to step n20 is performed until the file batch translation reaches the end of the file. When the end of the file is reached, the process returns to S from step nL5 as in the case of simple file translation.

From the above explanation, it can be seen that the present invention can be realized with the system configurations shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 and the flow shown in FIG. 6.

Note that the one-sentence translation subroutine at step n12 or step n17 has a function of outputting the next candidate when used again for the same sentence. In other words, in the example of Figure 7, when used for the first time, a translation based on the interpretation of P is output, and when used immediately for the same sentence without moving the cursor, a translation based on the interpretation of Q is output. It outputs . This function is already a well-known technique, and since the details of this function have no direct relation to the present invention, a detailed explanation thereof will be omitted here.

Further, in the present invention, translation is always required when calling from a file, but as an embodiment of the present invention, only calling without translation is also possible. In this case, the text will be called up on the CRT screen and translated after it becomes equivalent to the text entered from the keyboard. This changes the "file translation key" to "file call key", changes the content of step n6 in the flow of Figure 6 to (translation or call), and steps n
This can be achieved by omitting 18.

Furthermore, as another embodiment of the present invention, a "file call key" may be provided in addition to the "file translation key". In this case, a function is added, but this is done by changing the content of step n6 in the flow shown in Figure 6 to (translation 0 "call"), and selecting whether (file call) or (file translation) between step n7 and step n15. If it is (file translation), go to step n15, and if it is (file call), add a flow that excludes step n18 from steps n15 to n20.
