A videotape recording the still image broadcast television signal is played back by a VTR installed at a program transmitting station that provides programs to CATV stations, and the raw signal is transmitted from the transmitting antenna of the program transmitting station to CA'r'V. Station (single layer or multiple stations)
As the transmission means, wireless methods such as simultaneous broadcast communication using satellites, multi-beam transmission means, microwave communication means, and wired methods such as optical fibers and coaxial cables are selected depending on the need. Ru. Next, each CATV station that receives and reproduces the still image broadcast television signal has a receiving antenna (satellite antenna, etc.), a reception copying device that reproduces the still image broadcast television signal from the received radio waves, and a receiving/receiver. A VTR that records the reproduced still image broadcast television signal on a videotape, and a storage of one screen of the still image television signal in a fixed cycle (about a few seconds) based on the input of the still image broadcast television signal reproduced from the VTR. a plurality of still image reproducing decoders each having a built-in frame memory that can be repeatedly reproduced and updated; A modulator for frequency modulating the still picture television signal output from the still picture reproduction decoder is provided at the output stage of each still picture reproduction decoder,

Furthermore, in addition to the function of recording and reproducing normal television signals, the VTR installed at the CATV station also has the function of still-playing the recorded image signal for each frame and displaying the still image on the display screen of the television receiver. The still image television signal received from the antenna and played back (multiple still image broadcast programs are time-division multiplexed to produce one video broadcast channel) is equipped with a still image playback function and a frame-by-frame forwarding function. After recording a still image television signal (transmitted from a program supply station to a CATV station in a corresponding frequency band) onto a videotape using the VTR, the videotape is recorded by the VTR when broadcasting from the CATV station to a group of subscriber homes. from 1
A method has also been implemented to broadcast still images on a CATV broadcast channel while repeating still image playback and frame advance for each frame of still image television signals at a predetermined time @ (approximately 5 to 10 seconds). Ru. In other words, still image 1 is transmitted from the program supply station to the CATV station at 1/30th of a second per frame.
The screen is enlarged in time to create a broadcast screen of several seconds, and as a result, the transmission time from the program supply station to the CATV station is very short compared to the broadcast time of the still image broadcast program broadcast from CATV&. It is possible to supply a still image television signal for a still image broadcast program. For example, the transmission time of a one-hour program for still image broadcasting is It can be completed in just 6 minutes.

However, when the above-mentioned time extension is implemented using a VTR at a CATV station, the audio playback method in conventional still image broadcasting (a system in which the audio of several seven programs is multiplexed for each audio frame) is not continuous. Since playback is difficult, as a means of transmitting audio signals from the program supply station to the CATV station, a dedicated audio transmission route separate from the still image transmission route is used, such as an audio-only channel in satellite communication, a dedicated telephone line, or an audio-only transmission route. A dedicated audio transmission means such as an optical fiber transmission circuit, wireless transmission means, terrestrial transmission means, etc. is provided to multiplex the audio for several seven programs and supply the program together with still image signals and synchronization signals.

The still images are frequency-multiplexed by the receiver 13 and output to the broadcasting cable 3 to be displayed on the television receiver 18 in the subscriber's home 6. In addition, in order to perform time expansion processing where still image broadcasting is performed for a time longer than the signal transmission time from the program supply station to the CATV station, vrRlo or the VTR 17 is controlled by the VTR control device 16.
In the still static mode, the same frame is played back every second (approximately several seconds), and then the next frame is played back. By performing frame-by-frame playback, the time required for transmitting the program can be expanded by several seven to several hundred times.

The broadcast television signal that is input from the receiving antenna 2 and the wired cable 7, undergoes signal processing, and is output from the CATV station to the broadcasting cable 3 is not limited to a still image broadcast television signal. A television broadcast program consisting of moving images is also received through the CATV and outputted from the CATV to the cable 3, so that moving image television broadcasts are also performed along with still image television broadcasts. Furthermore, although this embodiment has been described with respect to a CATV system, by providing a plurality of decoders for reproducing still image broadcasts according to the present invention at a CATV center, an expensive decoder for reproducing still image broadcasts can be used in general receiving households. The VHF station is equipped with means that can perform still image broadcasting and reception and playback without the need for a VHF station, and a means for expanding the time between the still image program transmission time from the program supply station and the still image broadcast time to the receiver's home. It can also be implemented in broadcasting systems using radio waves such as . That is, instead of broadcasting on the cable 3, still image programs are broadcast on television radio waves, and this system is also included as one of the other examples of the present invention.

According to the still image broadcasting system of the present invention, it is possible to receive and utilize still image broadcast programs without installing a still image reproduction decoder equipped with an expensive frame memory in the subscriber's home 6 in a CATV system. Furthermore, in the CATV station, by using the above-mentioned time extension means, programs can be supplied in a transmission time that is significantly shorter than the still image broadcast time width, thereby making it possible to significantly reduce transmission costs.
