Abstract

PURPOSE: To always produce a timing signal for switching control mode at a fixed position against the track pitch despite the change of the reflection faction of a recording medium, the change of the irradiation light power and the gain change of an amplifier, by producing a track cross pulse through a comparator to show that a light spot passed through a fixed position of the track pitch.
CONSTITUTION: When a track error signal 10 having its varying amplitude is supplied to a peak holding circuit 1, the output of the circuit 1 is equal to a signal proportional to the amplitude of the signal 10 as shown by a waveform 12. While the output of an attenuator 2 is equal to a signal obtained by attenuating the output (waveform 11) of the circuit 1 in a fixed ratio as shown by a waveform 12. This signal is proportional to the amplitude of the signal 10 and supplied to a comparator 3 as a standard signal. Thus the reference signal varies in proportion to the change of the amplitude of the signal 10 even though this amplitude of the signal 10 varies. Thus it is always possible to produce a track cross pulse showing the same position from the center of the track.
