Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a clad metallic pipe at a low cost by packing powder into a capsule constituted of a thick-walled malleable metallic cylinder and thin-walled metallic cylinder, sealing hermetically the capsule and exerting an isotropic hydrostatic pressure thereto to form a billet and subjecting the billet to hot extrusion working.
CONSTITUTION: A bottom 3 and a cap 4 are welded to the thick-walled cylinder 1 consisting of the malleable metal and the thin-walled cylinder 2 consisting of a metal having high malleability to form the capsule. Since the bottom 3 and the cap 4 are chamfered 5, 6, the top and bottom ends of the cylinder 2 have expanded parts 7, 8. The powder 10 is packed through a through-hole 9 provided to the cap 4 into the capsule and after the inside of the capsule is evacuated, the hole 9 is closed by a plug 11. The diameter of the cylinder 2 is expanded and the right circular cylinder having the equal diameter is obtd. as a whole when such capsule is pressurized under the isotropic hydrostatic pressure. The powder 10 is thereby compressed and the billet is formed. The billet is subjected to hot extrusion to form the clad metallic pipe, by which the thick-walled cylinder 1 is made into the outside metallic cylinder, the powder 10 to the solid inside layer and the thin-walled cylinder 2 to a film. The film is removed if necessary.
