Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the uniformity of cutting quality by increasing stepwise a laser output according to a processing speed and blowing a cooling gas to a work during the stop time. CONSTITUTION:The cutting of the work by the laser light is executed by starting from a stop point. The laser output is set at the low output P0' corresponding to a speed V0' lower than a steady speed V0 until the cutting speed attains said speed. The laser output is increases stepwise from P0' to P0 at the point of the time when the cutting speed attains the steady speed V0 in succession thereto. The work is stopped and at the same time the irradiation of the laser light is stopped when the inflection point of cutting is attained. An auxiliary gas for cooling is blown near to the stop point to cool the work during the stop time. The next cutting operation is further started. The excess input when the cutting speed is low is prevented by the above-mentioned method and therefore the cutting quality is improved.
