Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the high strength Al alloy sheet having improved toughness without controlling the impurities by subjecting a Cu-containing Al alloy ingot having a prescribed composition to homogenizing treatment, and then to hot rolling and cold rolling in the direction perpendicular to the casting direction.
CONSTITUTION: The alloy ingot consisting of, by weight, 5.8W6.3% Cu, 0.20W0.40% Mn, 0.05W0.15% V, 0.10W0.25% Zr, 0.02W0.10% Ti, ≤0.20% Si, ≤0.30% Fe, ≤0.02% Mg, and the balance Al is subjected to soaking treatment at 450W535°C for about 18W60hr, which is hot-rolled in the direction perpendicular to the casting direction and then cold-rolled in the same direction. In this way, the high strength Al alloy sheet having superior toughness, reduced anisotropy, and excellent formability can be obtained. Further, the ingot is preferably held at 450W535°C for about 18W60hr from the soaking treatment to the finish of hot rolling by reheating it to 450W535°C in the middle of hot rolling.
