Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a stress loaded on an optical fiber uniform, and to eliminate the possibility that a microbend loss is generated, by circumscribing symmetrically plural metallic wires and welding them under pressure to the outside periphery centering on connected optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:As for a connected part 3 of an optical fiber 1 and 2, a core wire part 1A and a core wire part 2A are laid in bare state, the end faces are matched axially and welded, and the outside peripheral part of the connected part 3 is subjected to primary reinforcement by a primary contraction tube 4. By using the optical fibers 1, 2 as the center axes, plural (an example of three pieces is shown in the figure) metallic wires 7 are circumscribed symmetrically and attached to the outside peripheral part of the primary contraction tube 4. Also, in a state that all the metallic wires 7 have been held in the shape of a bundle, a secondary contraction tube 8 which is longer than the length of the metallic wire 7 is fitted and inserted in the shape of a sleeve, heated and contracted, and all the metallic wires 7 are welded under pressure to the primary contraction tube 4 and fixed to the connected part 3.
