Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the resistance to corrosion and wear of a magnetic recording medium by forming a thin ferromagnetic metallic film which consists essentially of cobalt and contains 10W35atom% oxygen atoms by the entire constituting atom on a thin metallic film consisting of cobalt and chromium.
CONSTITUTION: A cobalt-chromium alloy 14 is heated to evaporate in a vacuum deposition device and the thin metallic film of which the compsn. ratio of the cobalt and chromium is 5W20wt% by the weight % of the chromium is formed on a substrate 8 consisting of polyester, etc. A cobalt alloy 17 is then heated to evaporate to form the thin ferromagnetic metallic film layer which consists essentially of the cobalt and contains 10W35atom% oxygen atoms by the entire constituting atom thereon. The corrosion and wear resistance of the magnetic recording medium is remarkably improved by providing such thin metallic film thereto.
