Abstract

PURPOSE:To always maintain the grinding accuracy constant irrespective of abrasion of a grindstone, by detecting a decrease in the diameter of an grinding element such as, for example, a grindstone so that the rotational speed of the grinding element is increased in accordance with the decrease of the diameter. CONSTITUTION:With repetitions of grinding operations a grindstone 3 is worn so that its diameter is gradually decreased. In a reflective type light optical sensor 6 in a detecting device 7, by checking that which one of light illuminating elements receives light from a light emitting element after reflected by the grindstone 3, the decreasing amount of the diameter of the grindstone may be known. Further, the amount of abrasion detected by a detecting device 7 is fed in the form of an electrical signal S to a control circuit 8. When a signal indicating a decrease in the diameter of the grindstone 3 is fed, the frequency of power supply is increased so that the rotational speed of a motor is increased. Accordingly, the peripheral speed of the grindstone increases by an amount corresponding to the decreasing amount of the diameter of the grindstone 3, and therefore, the contact area between a raw material 2 and the grindstone 3 per unit time may be maintained equal to that before abrasion so that it is possible to prevent the grinding accuraty from lowering.
