Abstract

PURPOSE: To make a wide-range read through manual feeding operation by reading an image of a character, graphic form, etc., and a mark for position detection separately, and synthesizing pieces of image information which are obtained by making a scan plural times on the basis of marks for position detection.
CONSTITUTION: A light source 8-1 for illumination is used to read only a character 3 and a light source 8-2 is for reading both the character 3 and a mark 9 for position detection. When this device is arranged at positions 4-1W4-4 in order, the light sources 8-1 and 8-2 are turned on alternately and a two-dimensional image sensor 6 is scanned every time one light source is turned on. Images 11 and 12 obtained by the 1st and the 2nd manual feeding operations are denoted as 11 and 12. Those images are synthesized together on the basis of said mark 9 and the number of the address added therein to obtain an image 13. This processing is repeated to synthesize images, so that one read image is obtained.
