Abstract

PURPOSE:To secure a stable flying height between a medium and a head and to attain the floating of an extremely small level by filling a specific gas into a magnetic disk device or mixing the air and a gas to reduce the average free process of work for enclosure of gas less than that of the air molecule. CONSTITUTION:The inside of a magnetic disk device which floats a record/ reproduction head over the surface of a revolving magnetic recording medium via a minute space is filled with one type of N2 gas, CO2 gas, flon gas (-12, -13, -21, -22, -114), Kr gas, Xe gas and Rn gas respectively. While a mixture gas of the air and said one type of gases is also available. In case only the cylinder gas is filled into a tank, the air inside the tank is completely discharged by means of a rotary pump. Then an optional gas is filled into the tank from a gas cylinder by an optional desired amount. A disk is revolved to float a floating head.
