Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a photomagnetic recording medium which increases apparently a Kerr rotating angle and has good recording and reproducing efficiency by providing multi-layered films consisting of a rare earth-transition metal alloy film having vertically magnetic anisotropy and a film having light coherence and vertically magnetic anisotropy and contg. oxygen on a transparent substrate. CONSTITUTION:The vertical magnetic anisotropic film 10 consisting of a light- transmittable Tb-Fe film is formed on the transparent substrate 1 and the magnetic film 2 such as, for example, thin FeBO3 film or CoO film having coherence of light and vertically magnetic anisotropy and contg. oxygen is formed on the film 10. The reflecting film 3 consisting of a thin Cu film, etc. is then formed on the film 2 and the Kerr rotating angle as shown by a black bold line is multiplied by the reflection of the film 3 and the kerr rotating angle shown by the fine line is multiplied by the reflected light of the light. The photomagnetic recording medium which permits the efficient recording and reading out by the light and decreases light absorption is thus obtd.
