Abstract

PURPOSE:To efficiently operate a power inverter and to effectively protect against thermal damage by stepwisely detecting a current and operating a controller by a time limit inversely proportional to the current. CONSTITUTION:When a current flowed to a power inverter 6 gradually increases, it is input to the second timer 18 over a reference voltage of the second comparator 15, and when the set time of the timer is elapsed, the timer 18 outputs an output signal to a controller 10, which outputs an interruption command. When a large current flows to the inverter 6 for a short time, even if the output of the second comparator 15 is produced, the timer 18 operates for a short time. Thus, when exceeding the reference voltage of the first comparator 11, the first timer 14 operating for a short time operates, the controller 10 outputs an interruption command to the inverter 6 by the output to protect the output element of the inverter 6 against thermal damage.
