Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the holding power of an electrolyte by forming a separator for a storage battery by wet mix-combing a fiber mainly composed of a glass fiber containing alkaline silicate and powder mainly composed of glass powder containing alkaline silicate. CONSTITUTION:1-40wt% of powder mainly composed of glass powder containing alkaline silicate having an average diameter not exceeding 20mum is added to a fiber mainly composed of a glass fiber containing alkaline silicate having an average diameter 0.5-1.0mum for being subjected to wet mix-combing for making the hole diameter to be minute by interposing powder grains among the gaps of glass fibers for binding each other fellow fibers or fibers with powder grains by a material in the water glass shape to be generated during combing process in order to form a separator for a storage battery. Accordingly, the height of an absorbing liquid increased for enabling to hold a large amount of an electrolyte even on the upper part of the separator and to improve the combination of grains with fibers without using a binder contaminating the electrolyte.
