Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent a change of pressure, generated in an engine air intake system, from being spread into work chambers of a pump, by forming chambers, which absorb the change of pressure, in a space inside a rotor of the air pump.
CONSTITUTION: This supercharger provides a condition such that intake air is compressed in work chambers 16 while supercharge pressure is generated in accumulator chambers 12 in a rotor 6 by communicating with the intake passage of an engine through a discharge air hole 21. If the accumulator chamber is moved by rotating the rotor, air in the work chamber 16 and that in the preceding side is allowed to flow while being compressed into the accumulator chamber through a communication path 19 provided in a side housing. If the accumulator chamber is opened to the discharge air hole 21 by further rotating the rotor, high pressure air is released to the intake passage of the engine only by the amount of differential pressure between the pressure in the accumulator chamber and the supercharge pressure.
