Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a recording medium having excellent runnability, low-frequency characteristic and high-frequency characteristic as well as the excellent resistance to weather and wear by forming two kinds of magnetic layers obtd. by specifying the binder compsn. for a magnetic coated film layer and forming a thin ferromagnetic metallic film thereon on a base.
CONSTITUTION: A coating method magnetic layer 4 obtd. by dispersing magnetic powder into a ternary binder consisting of 5W35wt% alicyclic polyester resin having OH in the molecule, 40W90wt% polyurethane resin and 5W25wt% pyroxylin is formed on a nonmagnetic base 1 to 1W6μ thickness. A thin ferromagnetic metallic film 3 is then vacuum-deposited to 0.03W0.3μ thickness on the layer 4 by which a magnetic recording medium is obtd. The polyester resin having excellent heat resistance and adhesion strength and having no benzene nuclei in the molecule is used for the layer 4 and therefore said layer has good weatherability. Tape squeaking is thus prevented and the recording medium having excellent runnability and wear resistance without output fluctuation is thus obtd.
