Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect whether bodies to be detected different in reflection factor are present or not and to measure its movement distance through simple constitution without malfunction by calculating the ratio between direct reflected light and diffuse reflected light. CONSTITUTION:Light from the projection means 11 of an optical fiber illuminate the body 15 to be detected through a self-converging lens 14. Then, the direct reflected light and diffuse reflected light are photodetected by the 1st photodetecting means 12 and the 2nd photodetecting means 13 of optical fibers. Detection outputs of those means 12 and 13 are processed by coordinate amplification, subtraction, etc., to determine the ratio between the direct reflected light which does not vary in reflection factor and the diffuse reflected light, thereby detecting whether the body to be detected which has a different reflection factor is present or not without malfunction. Further, the center of the diffuse reflected light passes through an optical axis g2, and the movement of the body to be detected causes variation in not the quantity of the diffuse reflected light, but only the quantity of the direct reflected light, so the movement distance of the body to be detected is measured. Further, optical fibers for projection and photodetection need not be supported at some angle, and the constitution of the optical detector is reduced in size.
