Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance defrosting efficiency, enhance rise characteristics after a defrosting operation and simplify the construction of an exterior unit, by a method wherein a defrosting operation is started in response to lowering of the heating capability of a room heat exchanger, and is finished in response to a change in the cooling capability of the room heat exchanger.
CONSTITUTION: As frosting in an exterior heat exchanger 5 progresses, the heat absorption by the heat exchanger 5 is decreased, and the temperature in the room heat exchanger 3 is lowered. Then, a timer calculates heating opeation time, and when the temperature detected by a pipe sensor 6 in the room heat exchanger 3 is lowered to or below a set point, a defrosting controller provided in a room unit starts a defrosting operation. Also for completion of the defrosting operation, when the temperature detected by the sensor 6 is lowered to or below a set point determined in consideration of the temperature of a pipe in the room heat exchanger 3 and the degree of frosting in the exterior heat exchanger 5, the defrosting controller finishes the defrosting operation.
