Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent any flare light so as to improve the quality of printing by forming a light-shielding film on the entire inner surface of the top wall of a vacuum case except an area which is located right over a phosphor. CONSTITUTION:After a conductive light-shielding film 20 consisting of a thin metallic film is formed on the inner surface of a face glass 2, an area of the light-shielding film 20 which is located right over a phosphor 6 is removed in a slit-like form by etching or similar method so that light can be taken out through the area. When the fluorescent tube is a dot array tube, it is not necessary that the entire surface of the face glass 2 is transparent and the area through which light is taken out may have a small slit-like shape. Owing to the above constitution in which the entire inner surface of the face glass 2 except the area for taking out light is coated with the light-shielding film 20, any flare light is prevented.
