Abstract

PURPOSE:To operate the amount of deviation of the in-focus position of a focusing optical system from a predeterminate focal plane by detecting lateral deviation amounts delta1 and delta2 of images due to luminous fluxes in two parts of an exit pupil on the predeterminate focal plane on a basis of outputs of both photodetector arrays and using these lateral deviation amounts and an optical path length of a certain length DELTA. CONSTITUTION:The luminous flux from a total reflective mirror 4 is divided into two by two optical path dividing faces 26a and 26b of a beam splitter 26, and luminous fluxes of individual opticl paths are guided to two photodetector arrays 28 and 29 on a light receiving substrate 27 through a lateral deviation generating optical system 30 under the beam splitter 26. Light receiving faces of these two photodetector arrays 28 and 29 are placed in positions optically equivalent to face positions 11 and 12 which are placed the certain length DELTA before and behind a predeterminate focal plane 10 respectively. The lateral deviation gnerating optical system 30 gives dependence of the amount of received light upon angle to photodetectors in a group A and those in a group B of two photodetector arrays 28 and 29. In accordance with the lateral deviation amount delta1 of images formed on the photodetector array 28 by two luminous fluxes and the lateral deviation amount delta2 on the photodetector array 29, the deviation amount of an in-focus positon Pint of the image formed by a photographic lens 1 from the predeterminate focal plane 10, namely, a defocus amount dF is obtained.
