Abstract

PURPOSE:To cool a cell stack appropriately according to its load by automatically controlling the heat exchange capacity of a cooling device according to the amount of circulating air by rotating a rotary-heat-pipe-type heat exchanger installed in air circulation paths for the cell stack by means of a circulation blower interlocked with the heat exchanger. CONSTITUTION:Air circulation paths 2 and 2' for a cell stack 1 have a control damper 6 causing air to be distributed to an exhaust path 5 and a circulation path 2', a rotary- heat-pipe-type heat exchanger 7, a fresh-air intake hole 8 and a blower 4. The heat exchanger 7 is constituted of an air inlet case 9 and a heat exchange case 10. A partitioning plate 16 separating an air flow chamber 14 from a watering chamber 5, is fixed at the end of a cooling-water supplying tube 12 supported 11 by the case 9. A number of concentric heat pipes 17 are supported by the partitioning plate 16. The supplying tube 12 is connected to the jet pipe 18 of the watering chamber 15. The increase in the load of the fuel cell is detected with a load current detector. The rotational frequency of the blower 4 is increased by controlling the frequency of an inverter (INV). Therefore, the heat exchange capacity of the device can be automatically controlled through increase in the rotational frequency of the heat pipes 17 interlocked with the blower 4.
