Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the turbo efficiency by installing the exhaust turbine of an engine with controlled number of operating cylinder and equipped with a supercharger into an operation-side exhaust passage on the upstream side from a catalyst and installing a by-pass valve and a by-pass passage for connecting an operation-side exhaust passage a suspension-side exhaust passage, on the upstream side from the exhaust turine. CONSTITUTION:An exhaust turbine 26 is installed onto the upstream side from the first catalyst 14 in the operation-side exhaust passage 6 of a multicylinder engine which consist of suspension-side cylinders A-C and operation-side cylinders D-F, and a by-pass passage 29 and a by-pass valve 30 for connecting a suspension-side exhaust passage 7 to an operation-side exhaust passage 6 on the upstream side from the exhaust turbine 26 are installed, and the second catalyst is installed on the downstream side from the confluence part of the both exhaust passages. In case of the whole cylinder operation, the by-pass valve is perfectly opened by controlling solenoid valves 38 and 40 connected to the diaphragm device of the by-pass valve 30, and in case of partial cylinder operation, the opening degree is controlled according to the discharge pressure of a compressor 28, so the purification function of the catalyst is not obstructed, and exhaust can be utilized effectively.
