Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a heat pipe which can freely be bent and be fitted to any place in narrow space, by constituting a heat pipe of a flexible bellows pipe, filaments, and spring coils. CONSTITUTION:A heat pipe 10 is provided with a number of metallic or plastic filaments 18, annularly bundled in the longitudinal direction along the inner surface of a bellows pipe 12. The bundle of filaments 18 is pressed against the pipe 12 from its inside by the tension of spring coils 20 and is held between the spring coils 20 and the bellows pipe 12. A projected part 14b is provided to the outer surface of an end plate 14 of one heat pipe, while the outer surface of an end plate 14' of the other heat pipe is provided with a recess part 14'b. The inside of the bellows pipe 12 is vacuumized, and heating medium 22 of low boiling point is put into the pipe. When heat is absorbed on the side of an end plate 14', the heating medium 22 is evaporated and quickly reaches the side of an end plate 14, where the heating medium 22 is dew-condensated and quickly returns to the end plate 14' by a capillarly action, passing through the filaments 18.

Electronic components such as a single semiconductor element in an electronic device are placed in a narrow space inside the device, and it is preferable to use a heat pipe to cool the electronic components located in such a narrow space. However, the heat pipe of the conventional technology is 1ff.
111 M, 'j Since the heat pipe has a bend and cannot be bent freely, it is difficult to place the heat pipe in a narrow space and draw it freely outside.

[Flexible Heat Pipe] 0 is equipped with a metal bellows-shaped pipe 12, as shown in detail in Fig. 2 and Fig. 3, and this bellows-like pipe J2 is a small-diameter pipe with its both ends joined in close contact with each other. The copper plates having sections]-1a, 1.4'a are sealed by thermally conductive end plates 14, 14'. The flexible heat pipe 10 has opposing end plates 14 and 14' in contact with each other while maintaining a heat conduction relationship to provide continuity. In order to ensure this heat conduction relationship, the outer surface of one 'lft11 plate J4 is The other end plate 14' has a convex portion 141) on its outer surface, and a concave portion 14'b that complements the convex portion.
