PURPOSE:To measure displacement accurately, by employing a pulse radar system and a phase difference system in combination, and emitting an ultrasonic wave after pulse modulation. CONSTITUTION:A signal detector SD is fixed to an axle by a stay 4 and a bolt 5. Then, a transmitter TRM and a receiver RCV are fixed in the signal detector SD at right angles to the ground surface 1. When the distance between the transmitter TRM and receiver RCV, and ground surface 1 increases or decreases by lambda/2, signals of Q4-Q8 or Q4-Q1 of a twisted ring counter 119 appear at the output terminal of a multiplexer 118 in sequence. The signals appear on a signal line 400 and are transmitted to a computing device CMP. The CMP measures the time (t) of the signals and averages the time by as many times as specified to obtain the distance between the axle and road surface. Thus, the displacement is detected regardless of variation in received sound pressure to take the accurate displacement measurement.
