Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent generation of cracks in built-up weld parts when a built-up layer of a metal is formed on the outer surface of the base material of a metallic die, by using a high-hardness material to parts only which are highly worn away when the metallic die is used and a soft ductile material to the other parts. CONSTITUTION:When a metallic die for press work is manufactured by forming a built-up layer of a metal which has a high hardness and is excellent in the resistance to wear, seizing resistance, and lubricity on the outer surface of an inexpensive and strong metallic die making base material 5, such as steel, etc., a hard padding metal 6 which is high in hardness and resistance to wear, but inferior in ductility is built up to parts only which are highly worn away when the metallic die is used and another soft padding metal 7 which is softer than the metal 6, but harder than the base material 5, high in resistance to wear and ductility is built up to the other parts. Moreover, the hard padding metal 6 and soft padding metal 7 are built up concentrically on the outer surface of the metallic die making base material 5 by reversed polarity soft plasma padding method.
