Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide the titled apparatus capable of high quality gradation recording by continuously and stably changing the diameter of an ink droplet over a wide range, constituted so as to change at least one of the height and amplitude of a preceding pulse and the interval with a main pulse. CONSTITUTION:A preceding pulse with pulse amplitude of t1 and a height of V1 is applied to an electromechanical converting element to retreat a meniscus position from a nozzle surface and, subsequently, a main pulse with pulse amplitude of t2 and a height of V2 is applied to the electromechanical converting element to extrude ink from an ink chamber to fly the same as ink droplets. The diameter of each in droplet is changed according to the meniscus position and can be also changed by changing the interval of the preceding pulse and the main pulse. If all of the height and pulse amplitude of the preceding pulse or the interval of the preceding pulse and the main pulse are changed, the diameter of the ink droplet can be controlled over a wide range with high accuracy.
