Abstract
PURPOSE: In preparing an oxygen-containing lower compound from carbon monoxide and hydrogen, to prepare the desired compound useful as an industrial product, by using an inexpensive supported catalyst containing nickel and copper and/or molybdenum as catalytic active metal components.
CONSTITUTION: In preparing an oxygen-containing lower organic compound such as methanol, ethanol, propanol, etc. from carbon monoxide and hydrogen (synthesis gas), a supported catalyst containing (A) nickel and (B) copper and/or molybdenum as catalytic active metal components is used as a catalyst to give the desired compound in high selectivity advantageously. When the desired compound contains both an alcohol and an acetic acid, copper is used as the component B, and when the desired compound contains only the alcohol, molybdenum and or molybdenum and copper are used as the component B. Preferably a weight ratio of copper to nickel is 0.1W5, and a weight ratio of molybdenum to nickel is 0.01W5.
