Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent a superconductive magnet from quenching by a method wherein a ripple of a DC output current from a thyristor converter is detected and control is performed according to the detected ripple. CONSTITUTION:An excitation power source 10 supplies an exciting current to a superconductive magnet 17 which has superconductive coils 20, 21. A thyristor converter 12 supplies a power from an AC source and a gate control circuit 13 controls the gate of the thyristor converter 12. A DC circuit-breaker control circuit 15 drives a DC circuit-breaker 14 which disconnects an output power of the thyristor converter 12. A discrimination circuit 22 detects a ripple contained in an output current of the thyristor converter 12 and, when the ripple exceeds the specified level, transmits a signal to the gate control circuit 13 and the circuit breaker control circuit 15 to disconnect the power or change to the demagnetization. The discrimination circuit 22 is composed of a DC component eliminating circuit 23, absolute value conversion circuits 25, 26, a band-pass filter 27, comparators 28-31 and the like.
