Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the recording efficiency and to reduce the crosstalk, by removing a part, at least, other than magnetic poles on a sliding face of a medium of a magnetic substrate of a thin film magnetic head to increase the convergence of a recording magnetic field. CONSTITUTION:Grooves 9 as removed parts are formed on the side of a magnetic recording medium sliding face 6 of a substrate 1 so that only recording track parts are left there. These grooves 9 are formed with such depth that they reach the part near the tip part of a conductive layer 3. In the production of the substrate 1 having this structure, a means of dicing saw, wire saw, ion milling, dry etching, or the like is used to form grooves 9 on the side of the sliding face of the magnetic recording medium of the substrate 1, and an insulating layer 2, and the conductive layer 3, and an upper magnetic layer 4 are formed on the side of its side face 1a. After a protection plate 5 is adhered to it, the sliding face of the magnetic recording medium is finished by cutting and polishing.
