Abstract

PURPOSE:To form the same metal mold as a model without need for drawing a figure of said model by manufacturing a male mold with a metal having a lower melting point than said mold, resin, etc., and plating this male mold before carrying out electric discharge machining using said male mold as a discharge electrode. CONSTITUTION:Metal having a low melting point or resin is filled in the cavity 1a of the model 1 for a metal mold to be manufactured, providing a male mold 2. Then, using this male mold 2, a female mold of the same shape as the model 1 is formed with a filler. The inner surface of the obtained female mold is plated with chrome, copper, etc. A filler is again thrawn into the female mold obtained in this way, forming a male mold, and the surface of this mold is then plated with copper. The male mold thus obtained is used as a discharge electrode, mated with a metal mold material to be treated, and electric discharge machining is carried out using discharge between the discharge electrode and a material, thereby obtaining a metal mold having a cavity of the same shape as that of the model 1.
