Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform cleaning of the scale on the surface of membrane on the yarn smoothly while preventing the damage of the membrane by providing a flexible porous protecting body extending or contracting primarily in the radial direction to the outer periphery of hollow yarn bundle having a free end so that interstice may not be left substantially to hold the bundle in a dense condition and that the free ends of the bundle may be exposed.
CONSTITUTION: A flexible porous protecting body 2 is coated on the outer periphery of a hollow yarn bundle 1 consisting of many strings of the hollow yarn so as not to have substantial remaining voids. The bottom ends 3 of the hollow yarn are sealed forming free ends without causing adhesion between individual hollow single yarn. The other ends 4 are opened forming ends 5 using an adhesive. Figure (a) shows a shape of the bundle where the shape of the bundle during the back-washing stage, and figure (b) shows a state of the bundle where the bundle is back-washed using air. As it may be recognized in the figure (b), since the hollow single yarn is moved sufficiently by the bubbles of air between each suitably expanded yarn 1 and the scale, the scale on the surface of the membrane is easily stripped off. When the back-washing using air is finished, the conditions of the protecting body are restored again to the condition shown by the figure (a).
