Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an amorphous magnetic alloy with superior wear and corrosion resistances by alloying a specified metal, principally an iron group metal with Nb or by further alloying them with a metalloid element and a special metallic element.
CONSTITUTION: An amorphous magnetic alloy is obtd. by alloying 70W94atomic% of 1 or ≥2 kinds of metallic elements M such as Fe, Co, Ni, Mn, Cr, Mo and W with 6W20atomic% Nb or by further alloying them with 0.1W10atomic% of 1 or ≥2 kinds of metalloid elements X such as B, C, Si, Ge, Al and Sn, 0.1W5atomic% of 1 or ≥2 kinds of special metallic elements T such as Ti, Zn, Hf, V and Ta, or 0.1W5atomic% Y and a rare earth element. These elements may be added combinedly. The resulting amorphous magnetic alloy has superior wear and corrosion resistances as well as superior magnetic characteristics, and it is used as the material of the core of a magnetic head.
