CONSTITUTION:A detecting part 4 is provided between a supplying stand 2 and a wire drawing mill, etc., and the part 4 consists of four detecting rods 51-54, which are arranged in a shape of square or rectangle and are insulated from the earth by insulating materials 6 and also are mutually insulated. An electric current does not flow through the rods 5 when a roughly drawn wire 3 passes through the part 4 in a normal state. Further a circuit is formed through the earth even when the wire 3 contacts with any one of these rods. When a snarled part 7 of the wire 3 contacts with >= two rods at one time while passing through the part 4, >= two electric currents (i1)-(i4) flow through a detecting device 8 causing the change of the total current (i). This change of current is detected by a current detector 10 which outputs a signal to a stopping circuit 11 to stop the mill. Thus the wire is prevented from a break down, and an operation efficiency is improved.
