Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the catalytic activity in reacting methyl tert-butyl ether in the presence of a solid acidic catalyst to give isobutylene, by reducing the isobutylene dimer concentration in the feedstock to a low value.
CONSTITUTION: Methyl tert-butyl ether is reacted in the presence of a solid acidic catalyst to prepare isobutylene. In the process, the isobutylene dimer concentration in the feedstock is reduced to less than 1,000wt.ppm. The reaction can be carried out at a lower temperature than in the conventional method, or the reactor can be miniaturized at the same temperature as in the conventional method. The integrated process with the synthesizing process of the methyl tert- butyl ether produces further improved effects.
