Abstract
PURPOSE:To densify a metal powder within a short cycle time using simple facilities, by sealing a metal capsule container in which the metal powder is filled, and subjecting it to hot hydrostatic pressure press treatment using a heat resisting grease as a pressure medium. CONSTITUTION:A metal powder (A) is filled in the metal capsule container 3 having an opening section 2, and after a lid 1 is welded, the opening section 2 is connected to a vacuum system to deaerate the inside, and then the opening section 2 is sealed. The container is uniformly heated to a suitable temperature to permit the remaining gas in the container to be completely absorbed, then is transferred into a pressure vessel, is heated to a prescribed treatment temperature, and is compressed under a pressure up to 20,000atm., preferably a pressure of 1,000-10,000atm. using a fluid heat resisting grease so that the metal powder (A) is densified. As the container 3, one of steel is preferred, said treatment temperature should not be above the solidus of the material of the container, and preferably should be in the range of 700-1,250 deg.C, and it is preferred that a getter powder (A') such as Ti powder is previously contained in the container to completely remove the remaining gas in the container.
