Abstract

PURPOSE: To impart high activity and long life to the titled catalyst even at a specific high temp. by a method wherein a γ-alumina coating layer containing Cs and/or Sn and Y and/or Zn on a heat resistant carrier and a noble metal layer is further provided on said coating layer.
CONSTITUTION: A γ-alumina coating layer 2 containing Cs and/or Sn and Y and/ or Zr is provided on a heat resistant carrier 1 comprising cordierite and a noble metal layer 3 comprising Pt and/or Pd is further provided on said coating layer 2. In the above mentioned coating layer 2, the total amount of Cs and Sn is pref. 5W30wt% to γ-alumina while the total amount of Y and Zr is pref. 1W 10wt% to γ-alumina. This catalyst holds high activity and long life even within a temp. range of about 800W1,500°C.
