Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the anti-wear property and the crack resistance of the titled material, by alternately applying TiC, HfC and TiN thin films on the surface of WC hard metal, TiC cermet or TiN cermet in a multiple structure. CONSTITUTION:A multiple coating layer as mentioned below is formed on the surface of a WC hard metal, TiC cermet or TiN cermet by a chemical vapor deposition method. That is, coating layers consisting of TiC, HfC and TiN monolayers with thicknesses of 1mum or less. pref., below 0.5mum are successively coated in nine layers or more, pref., in 20 layers or more so as to form the multiple coating layer with a total thickness of 2-15mum.
