Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease crop losses and to improve yield in the stage of rolling thick plates with plural rolls by rolling the sectional shape in the longitudinal direction of the plate to a recessed shape in a rolling stage prior to broadside rolling to increase the rate of overhanging of the rolled material upon completion of the broadside rolling stage. CONSTITUTION:A thick plate is rolled under control in rolling reduction so that the preceding and succeeding end parts in the longitudinal section of the plate are rolled to a shape thicker than the central part in a rolling stage X prior to broadside rolling with horizontal rolls. The rate DELTAW of broadside overhanging of the material to be rolled upon completion of a broadside rolling stage in succession to said rolling is increased. Finally the material is subjected to a finish rolling stage, whereby the rolled plate is obtained. Fish tails and crop losses are decreased considerably and the yield of the materials is improved by the above-mentioned method.
