Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:The 4-acryloxyethyl trimellitic acid ester of formulaIor its acid anhydride of formula II.
USE: A component of various adhesive compositions. An adhesive composition can be prepared by combining the compound with one or more polymerizable compounds having ethylenic unsaturated bond and a polymerization initiator, and the composition is curable at normal temperature of relatively low temperature or with light, and has high adhesivity especially to metals and tooth, etc., high rate of cure, and excellent flexibility and solvent resistance.
PROCESS: The acid anhydride of formula II can be prepared by reacting the compound of formula III with trimellitic anhydride or its reactive derivative in a reaction solvent at ≤10°C for 3W5hr. The acid anhydride can be converted to the ester compouund of formulaIby dissolving in a solvent and hydrolyzing by a conventional method, e.g. reacting with water at room temperature.
