Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the recovery performance of the open-circuit voltage of a button-type air cell, and improve the preservation performance of the air cell by interposing a separator between a negative zinc electrode and an air electrode which principally consists of active carbon, a conductive member and Mn2O3, and using an alkaline electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:An air intake hole 2 is provided in the convex part of the bottom surface of a positive case 1. Here, the hole 2 is blocked with a seal tape when the air cell is not used. Next, a diffusion paper 3, a water-repellent film 4 made of a fluorine-system resin, an air electrode 5, a separator 6 and an electrolyte-holding member 7 are installed over the bottom of the positive case 1. After that, a negative electrode 10 made of an amalgamated zinc powder is placed on the electrolyte-holding member 7. Here, the air electrode 5 is a catalyst principally consisting of active carbon, a conductive member and Mn2O3. In addition, an electrolyte prepared by saturating an aqueous alkaline solution with zinc oxide, is poured in the negative electrode 10. In such a battery, the recovery characteristic of the open-circuit voltage is enhanced, and the discharge voltage during the preservation is stabilized by using Mn2O3 which is obtained by subjecting gamma-MnO2 to heat treatment.
