Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain speedry reading operation while holding resolution excellent by varying the frequency of a clock signal for driving a linear image sensor during a driving period. CONSTITUTION:With a readout start signal RS from the control means of a CPU, linear image sensors 1-3 performs readout scanning operation, and a cleared CCD bit counter counts a transfer clock CKL; when it is judged that an original image at effective parts of linear image sensors 1-3 has been read, a CCD clock driver 7 varies the clock frequency, and ineffective parts of the linear image sensors 1-3 are driven by a clock having a high frequency than that of the effective parts, so that reading operation is performed at high speed without spoiling resolution.
